What this data means — and how to use it
The ex-dividend date is the key date
To receive a dividend you must own shares before the ex-dividend date. On the ex-date the price typically drops by roughly the dividend amount — a dividend is not free money.
Four dates, different meanings
Declaration (announced), ex-dividend (buy-before), record (holder of record), and payment (cash paid). We show each where the vendor provides it.
Yield is a snapshot
Reported yield reflects a point-in-time price and the trailing or declared dividend. A very high yield can signal a falling price or an at-risk payout — not just generosity.
